PhD position : Vestibular integration in modified gravity and space motion sickness – Bordeaux, France

Topic : The immediate effects of a gravitational modification on the vestibular function remain poorly known. However, the vestibular system is at the heart of the hypotheses put forward concerning kinetosis, and more particularly space motion sickness. This project aims at exploring the semi-circular and otolithic detection capacities during critical phases following a gravity change, to better understand the consequences in the occurrence of kinetosis.
The experimental protocols will be based on the sensorimotor exploration tools of the
INCIA Motion Analysis Platform, and on the realization of parabolic flights within the
A310 Zero-G during campaigns of the french Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales
(CNES). The recruited person will take an active part in the definition and the
implementation of the experimental protocols, the collection and the analysis of data,
and in the writing of articles in international journals.
Profile : Master’s degree in Movement Sciences, Kinesiology, Neurosciences,
Cognitives Sciences, or related disciplines. Experience in human motion experiment
(eye-tracking, EMG, virtual reality...) and in data analysis and modeling (Matlab,
Python...) will be considered favorably.
Context : The PhD student will be supervised by Etienne Guillaud at INCIA, in the
MotoPsyn team (http://www.incia.u-bordeaux1.fr/spip.php?article793). The fellowship
is co-funded by the CNES (2023-2026) and the pre-selected candidates will have to
apply on the CNES website before march 16. The candidate will be hired by the
Bordeaux University, and registered at EDSP2 doctoral school.
How to apply : submit CV, description of research interests and transcripts
(master) to etienne.guillaud@u-bordeaux.fr
